FAQ
Online therapy questions people ask before booking.
Is what I say in a session confidential?
+
Yes, with the standard limits that apply to any practising clinical psychologist. What you share stays between you and me, unless there’s a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or disclosure is required by law. If any of that ever becomes relevant, it will be discussed with you directly rather than acted on silently, except where the law doesn’t allow for that conversation first.
What does a first online therapy session look like?
+
A clinical intake over video call. I’ll ask what brought you in, your history, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re hoping to get out of working together. There’s no test to pass and nothing you need to prepare. By the end, we’ll both have a sense of whether this is a fit and what the next few sessions might focus on.
What do you help with?
+
I work on anxiety and stress (including overthinking, panic, and work or exam pressure), depression and low mood, and relationship and family concerns. I see adolescents from age 13, college students and young adults, working professionals, adults of all ages, and couples. If something you’re facing isn’t on that list, ask before booking and I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right person.
Do you offer therapy in Hindi or Marathi?
+
Yes. Sessions are available in English, Hindi and Marathi. You can choose the language you feel most able to express yourself in, and switch between them within a session if that helps.
Can Indians living abroad (NRIs) book sessions?
+
Yes, from any country. Sessions are held over video call, so you can book from anywhere with a private space and a reasonably steady internet connection. The booking calendar shows times in your own time zone, and sessions for clients abroad run on weekday mornings and evenings IST. Fees for clients abroad are shared on enquiry.
Are you a psychologist or a psychiatrist? Can you prescribe medication?
+
I’m a clinical psychologist. My training is in assessing and treating mental health concerns through therapy, not medication. I don’t prescribe medicines; that’s done by a psychiatrist, who is a medical doctor. If I think a psychiatric review would help you, I’ll say so, and we can talk through how to go about it.
What is CBT, and will you use it with me?
+
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a structured, practical approach that looks at how your thoughts, feelings and behaviour affect each other, and builds skills for working with unhelpful patterns. It has a strong evidence base for anxiety and depression. I use CBT alongside other approaches in an integrative way, so what we do depends on you and what you’re facing, not on a fixed script.
Are sessions online or in person, and does online therapy work?
+
Online, over video call on Google Meet. I’m based in Pune, and because sessions are online I see clients across India and abroad. There’s no in-person therapy option right now, so all you need is a private space and a reasonably steady internet connection. Research on video-based therapy shows it can work well for many concerns, including anxiety and depression, and many people find it easier to fit into their lives. It isn’t the right format for everyone, for example during a crisis, and if I think that’s the case I’ll tell you.
How long is a session, and how much does therapy cost?
+
Individual sessions are 45 minutes, usually weekly to start and adjusted as you go. The fee is ₹1,500 per session for clients in India. Fees for clients abroad are shared on enquiry.
Do I need a referral or diagnosis to book?
+
No. Most people who book haven’t been diagnosed with anything and don’t need to be. If you’re unsure whether what you’re dealing with is “enough” to bring to therapy, that uncertainty itself is a reasonable thing to bring.
What’s the cancellation policy?
+
Please give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Rescheduling with that notice is free. If you need to cancel at shorter notice because of an emergency, the first time there’s no charge. After that, late cancellations are charged the full session fee.
How are the workshops different from a therapy session?
+
A therapy session is about you: your own situation, at your own pace, with no set curriculum. A workshop is training, aimed at psychology students who want structured practice in specific clinical skills, starting with case history taking and the Mental Status Examination (MSE). Workshops are teaching sessions, not therapy. I run them with a group of about 10 to 25, online or in person in Pune and Mumbai, as a single session or a series, scheduled with each group on request. Pricing is quoted on enquiry.
Do you see teenagers and couples?
+
Yes. I see adolescents from age 13, and I do couples counselling as well as individual sessions for adults. If you’re looking for therapy for a child under 13, send a note and I’ll point you in the right direction.
Is this an emergency or crisis service?
+
No. Online sessions with me aren’t an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. In India, Tele-MANAS offers free support 24×7 on 14416. If you’re outside India, please contact your local crisis line.
